American Honda Motor Corporation
Permanent Digital Newsroom Sites; Event Support
By the late 1990s, online PR sites had become commonplace for many companies — yet American Honda Motor Corporation still lacked this critical resource. Leaders at the Detroit Honda office contacted Wieck in 1999 to help pinpoint the manufacturer’s Web needs. After consulting with Wieck, the Honda team decided to move forward with the development of a media-relations Web site and subsequently issued a request for proposals. Wieck, along with several strong competitors, competed for the business — and although Wieck’s proposal was not the least expensive, the team was chosen on its merit. Wieck worked closely with the client to create the first North American Honda and Acura media-relations site, which was launched in July 2001.
Since that time, Wieck’s relationship with American Honda Motor Corporation has grown to include sites for its Power Equipment and Marine Division as well as its Motorcycle Division. Wieck also provides on-site support staff and communication technologies during all the major North American car shows. As a result of Wieck’s involvement, the client reports that call volume for routine information and image requests has dropped dramatically, leaving the Honda PR staff free to focus on the core media relationships that drive their success.
